Lone Mountain Ranch, Day 1
We arrived yesterday evening, with just enough time to have a drink, eat a huge dinner, and crash. Today is the first day that really counts. After a quick breakfast, including just enough bacon, it was time to get boots and meet horses.

Ladies and gentlemen, we have breaking news. At 11:18 am this morning, at Santa Monica beach, lifeguard station 22, a mermaid appeared at low tide in the blue waves, squiggled her way up the shore, exited the water, turned her tail into two legs, and ran up the beach towards the restaurants. The sand underneath each of her footsteps turned to gold, and all the water that dripped off her long reddish curly hair turned to sapphires as soon as they hit the sand. Witness Jonathan Rodgers, who was enjoying the beach with his family, witnsssed this extraordinary event. โHoooeeeee, that was weird!โ Mr. Rodgers said.

I peered Into the water and what I saw made me laugh out loud. My hair had grown thick, dark, and rather curly. I saw my eyes, glistening in the sunlight that was reflected off the puddle.
